Planning Working Group

The Planning Working Group acts as a consultee (in the interests of and on behalf of residents of Wheldrake Parish) for planning applications which are made through the City of York Planning Office. The aim is to have at least three, but no more than five council members form part of the working group. Typically, all planning consultations are passed to Wheldrake Parish Council from the City of York Council, to enable local representatives to provide grassroots influence over the planning decisions made by City of York Council. Where the majority of planning applications are presented at the monthly parish council meeting, all council members are entitled to express opinions on planning matters and the full council present can vote on whether to communicate any objections and reasons for doing so.

Parish Councillors rely heavily on the 'Village Design Statement' during consultation. The Village Design Statement was developed, researched and written by local residents. Its production involved a wide section of the village community and as such is representative of the village as a whole.
